What is school based health?

The Campus Clinic is an AMCHC School Based Health Clinic (SBHC) located on the campus of Asheville High School (AHS) in the CTE Building.  The Campus Clinic provides comprehensive primary care, behavioral health counseling, and dental to AHS students and staff. Our youth-centered model offers a medical home to students without interrupting their school day or requiring a parent to miss work.  We specialize in management of chronic illness, acute concerns, sexual wellness, mental health, and preventative health, including well child visits, immunizations, and dental health.

Who can receive services at a SBHC?

Any student currently enrolled at Asheville High school. After graduation, seniors can use the health center through the first week of August; after that, AMCHC staff will assist students with transitioning to our Asheville clinic.

When is the Campus Clinic open and what are the hours?

The AMCHC Campus Clinic follows the ACS school calendar

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30am–3:30pm (open during lunch periods).

How do I register?

With the exception of the Minor Consent Law, guardians must enroll students as AMCHC patients. Enrollment paperwork includes a consent to treat form, allowing students to access care on an ongoing basis.

Enrollment forms can be completed online. We can also provide paper copies to send home with your student.

What if my student already has a primary care provider or pediatric provider?

No problem! The  AMCHC Campus Clinic can supplement your student’s existing established health care or serve as your student’s primary care provider. Let us know when you register and we will forward records to your child’s provider for continuity of care and follow-up.

How much does it cost?

Students DO NOT directly pay for services. Instead, if a student is insured, the insurance may be billed where applicable. We do not send letters home for confidential services, but bills and/or EOBs will go out.

Services external to the clinic such as medication cost, imaging, and referral copays will vary based on a patient’s insurance.

How can I request an appointment?

For acute concerns that occur during the school day, please visit the school nurse. The nurse will review concerns and refer to The Campus Clinic if indicated.

My student only needs counseling and prefers to keep their own primary care provider.  Is this possible?

Yes! Once enrolled, students do not have to take advantage of all services offered and can schedule appointments for their individualized health care needs.  This applies to dental as well.
